Breakout with Roselie

My good friend, Roselie, is in town for vacation.  She migrated to Yuma, Arizona two years ago with her entire family and is working there as a Nurse.

She is still the same vibrant, noisy, sweet-scented Roselie, this time sporting a wallclock on her wrist (read: Guess wrist watch way bigger than the old one peso coin, hahaha) and a newly rebonded shiny long hair.  She later told us that the minute she stepped in Manila, the first thing she did was re-dye her light colored hair black to blend back.  Good point.  She’d be so balikbayan had she come blond, hehehe.

As it always happens, among friends, no matter how long you haven’t seen each other, the next time you do meet, it’s as if you’ve just seen each other yesterday and everything instantly resumes spontaneously.  Seeing Roselie again is no exception.  Over dinner last Friday night, we filled True Brew with our warm laughter and updates of her new life in the U.S.  Of course, we filled her in with the local chickas… Three hours, and we still have so much to say… I went home early that night (10:30pm).  I’m later told that Zandee and Roselie checked out Ralph’s pad after and stayed until midnight.

Then, on Monday Night, we went to Lyna’s home for coffee.   Cheerful clatter ensued Lyna’s dining table with tales of work, family life and recollections of our high school days  (should I say recollections of our HS crushes????).  After all the talk, our balikbayan friend wanted to go dancing in the city.  Unfortunately, Sabrosos  has been closed for good (was there dancing here???).  So we advanced to GSub Bar.  We were the only customers there on a Monday (!) night.   The dancefloor was empty — the airconditioner was not even turned on.  We danced for the pictures and then settled in one of the tables to resume our neverending catching up.

Roselie will be leaving for Manila this Sunday and then from there, back to Arizona.  So last night, we went Videoke singing at Karaga Hotel because she badly wants to sing : ) .
There was supposed to be a batch meeting before we go singing so we met up at Margie’s.  The meeting got postponed because…?  I don’t know. Oh, our batch president could not make it.  So Roselie, Zandee, Love-love, JennyND, Lyna, Ralph, Janice and I proceeded to Karaga Hotel to fulfill Roselie’s wish.

I really enjoyed our videoke night.  Too bad, Roselie forgot to bring her digicam, so our pix mainly come from my Nokia N70 which I should have set to night mode when taking the pix.  : (

There were so many songs we sang, but breakout by swing out sisters set the night dancing (sing with me):

                When explanations make no sense
                When every answer’s wrong
                You’re fighting with lost confidence
                All expectations gone

The time has come to make or break
                Move on don’t hesitate
                Breakout

                Don’t stop to ask
Now you’ve found a break to make at last
You’ve got to find a way
Say what you want to say
                Breakout

                When situations never change
                Tomorrow looks unsure
Don’t leave your destiny to chance
                What are you waiting for
The time has come to make your break
                Breakout

                Don’t stop to ask
Now you’ve found a break to make at last
You’ve got to find a way
Say what you want to say
                Breakout

                Don’t stop to ask
Now you’ve found a break to make at last
You’ve got to find a way
Say what you want to say
                Breakout

                Some people stop at nothing
                If you’re searching for something
                Lay down the law
                Shout out for more
Breakout and shout day in day out
                Breakout

                Breakout

                Don’t stop to ask
Now you’ve found a break to make at last
You’ve got to find a way
Say what you want to say
                Breakout

                Don’t stop to ask
Now you’ve found a break to make at last
You’ve got to find a way
Say what you want to say
                Breakout

                Lay down the law
                Shout out for more
Breakout and shout day in day out

                Breakout

                Breakout

                Breakout

                Lay down the law
                Shout out for more
Breakout and shout day in day out

0418200817904182008181_1Ralph said Janice is our Official Videoke Master for the night.  She really knew what songs to sing and knew how to sing those songs.  He asked Janice for a list of the songs so that next time, he’ll be ready too.

0418200818504182008191Is that Love-love’s rendetion of "Desperado"?  That’s Zandee in pink, by the way.  And Michael P., Rolando, Love2 and Ralphy.  Michael and Rolando were mere observers.  Both did not sing, although Rolando previously selected "Wonderwall" but was no longer around when the song played.

Jingle and Jenny on the left.  Zandee, Lyna and me too.  Taking a break from singing?  I bet the mike was with Ralph and Love2.  I can’t remember what Zandee sang.  I sang True Blue (Baby I love you!) by Madonna.  JennyND sang many, MacArthur Park being the last.  I particularly remember Jingle singing "Somewhere Down the Road". wink wink.
04182008192Star of the night, Roselie, singing "Basang Basa sa Ulan", bwahahahaha.  Di bitaw… She sang serious songs, even one that made JennyND cry because the latter remembered her late dad with that song she sang which I do not know the title.

Roselie and Jingle, setting "Tell Me" on the videoke machine?  Joke joke joke.  These two entertained us very much during the night, just for laughs.  If you know what I mean.   Thanks for being good sports, you guys! CLOSED.

It’s been over ten years since I went videoke singing outside until the wee hours of the morning.  We ended at around 1:30am.  It was a night of friendship and the warm comfortable feeling I always get whenever I am with my oldest friends.  Thank you Roselie for the treat!  Have a safe trip back home.

To end this very long blog, I’m posting our last song last night.  I was the one who selected this because this has always been my all time favorite.  When the song played, JennyND and Janice were amused because it is one of theirs too. Here’s one for the road:

            Touch and Go
            by Rupert Holmes

            Nobody said that
            Life is always fair
            Sometimes it clips your wings
            While you’re in mid-air
            But there’s a thread
            Between your life and mine
            And when you’re losin’ hope
            This rope won’t unwind

            REFRAIN:
            Hold on tight
‘Cause life is touch and go
            It’s sink or swim
            But never doubt
If you’re out on a limb
            I’ll get the call
            To break your fall
            I’ll never leave you
            Even when life
            Is touch and go
            Or hit and run
            We’ll never break
If we take it as one
            I’m here to stay,
            I pray you know
            I’ll never touch
            I’ll never touch and go

            Someday you’ll find
            There’s nothin’ in the night
            That wasn’t there before
            You turned out the light
            Straight from your mind
            The monster ‘neath your bed
            The voices in the hall
            They’re all in your head

            REFRAIN:
            Hold on tight
‘Cause life is touch and go
            It’s sink or swim
            But never doubt
If you’re out on a limb
            I’ll get the call
            To break your fall
            I’ll never leave you
            Even when life
            Is touch and go
            Or hit and run
            We’ll never break
If we take it as one
            I’m here to stay,
            I pray you know
            I’ll never touch
            I’ll never touch and go

            When you feel lost
            You’re only spun around
            Tumbled and tossed
            But never run around
            Life is a townful
            Of strangers at best
            I’ll help you home
            God help the rest

            REFRAIN:
            Hold on tight
‘Cause life is touch and go
            It’s sink and swim
            But never doubt
If you’re out on a limb
            I’ll get the call
            To break your fall
            I’ll never leave you
            Even when life
            Is touch and go
            Or hit and run
            We’ll never break
If we take it as one
            I’m here to stay,
            I pray you know
            I’ll never touch
            I’ll never touch and go

            Life is touch and go
            It’s sink or swim
            But never doubt
If you’re out on a limb
            I’ll get the call…
